Net Reproduction Number as a Real-Time Metric of Population Reproducibility

Net Reproduction Number as a Real-Time Metric of Population Reproducibility

Between 1962 and 1993, Korea implemented a successful family planning policy. In 1993, this policy was discontinued; in 2004, childbirth-promoting policies were implemented (Multimedia Appendix 1). In 2023, Korea had the lowest fertility rate (0.8) worldwide [1]. The total fertility rate (TFR), the average offspring number per childbearing-age females (15‐49 years), is a common metric to assess population change potential.

Association of Frailty Index at 66 Years of Age with Health Care Costs and Utilization Over 10 Years in Korea: Retrospective Cohort Study

South Korea experiences one of the fastest rates of population aging in the world, with 40% of its population expected to be aged over 65 years by 2050 [3]. The country is already experiencing a deficit in health insurance budget [4]. Proactive identification of individuals who are likely to incur high health care costs and utilization is critical for developing strategies to control health care expenditures in the aging society.

Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory–Based Detection of Adverse Drug Reaction Posts Using Korean Social Networking Services Data: Deep Learning Approaches

A previous study [10] calculated the Beers Criteria drug prescription and the incidence of side effects in persons aged 65 years or older in Korea. The top 3 drugs (metoclopramide, chlorpheniramine, and ketoprofen) were selected based on prescriptions and side effects reported in the clinical environment of Konyang University Hospital [11]. Therefore, the focus of this study was on ketoprofen.

National and Regional Trends in the Prevalence of Hypertension in South Korea Amid the Pandemic, 2009-2022: Nationwide Study of Over 3 Million Individuals

National and Regional Trends in the Prevalence of Hypertension in South Korea Amid the Pandemic, 2009-2022: Nationwide Study of Over 3 Million Individuals

Despite a slowdown in the rise of hypertension prevalence, its rate continued to steadily increase during the pandemic period in South Korea [5]. Because of the interaction between COVID-19 and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), there is speculation that COVID-19’s pathogenesis could be linked to hypertension [6,7]. Several reports have noted that individuals who contract COVID-19 may have a higher likelihood of developing hypertension compared with those who have not contracted the virus [8,9].

Optimal Systolic Blood Pressure for the Prevention of All-Cause and Cardiovascular Disease Mortality in Older Adults With Hypertension: Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study

Optimal Systolic Blood Pressure for the Prevention of All-Cause and Cardiovascular Disease Mortality in Older Adults With Hypertension: Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study

In Korea, the aging population is progressing more rapidly than in other countries; it is expected that the proportion of the older adult population will exceed 20% in 2025, 30% in 2035, and 40% in 2050 [2]. To maintain quality of life with longevity, managing chronic disease is important in this population.

Multimorbidity and its Associated Factors in Korean Shift Workers: Population-Based Cross-Sectional Study

Multimorbidity and its Associated Factors in Korean Shift Workers: Population-Based Cross-Sectional Study

About 12% to 14% of wage workers in Korea are shift workers, and weekly working hours vary from 50 hours to 58 hours depending upon the shift types, which is significantly higher than for day workers [23]. Shift work and long working hours are well-known risk factors for several chronic diseases. However, the prevalence of multimorbidity and its associated factors in Korean shift workers are rarely reported.

Association Between Internet Searches Related to Suicide/Self-harm and Adolescent Suicide Death in South Korea in 2016-2020: Secondary Data Analysis

In South Korea, Naver [18] is the largest and the most popular search engine, with Google being less popular [19]. Naver Datalab [20] is a free service that provides the search volumes and trends of specific terms in the same way as Google Trends. However, unlike in Google Trends, in Naver Datalab, it is possible to extract the search volume of a given term for each day according to the RSV.
